At Stirling Carers Centre we are committed to building a team of passionate and capable volunteers, who enhance our services with their skills and personalities.

We have opportunities to volunteer across all our services. If you’re a people person, then we’re always looking for volunteers to help run our groups and peer-support services. If you are an organiser, then you could be a great fit for our admin support. If you have a specialist skill set, then we’re keen to hear from you to see how we can build that into our service.

Our volunteer team helps in many ways including:

  • Carers groups & peer support
  • Office admin
  • Carers’ Garden maintenance
  • Specific development projects
  • Fundraising

Whatever your passion, get in touch for a chat about how you can help.

Charlie

Young Carers volunteer since 2005
Why did you choose to volunteer at Stirling Carers Centre?

“I have taken part in volunteering all my life, so when I moved to Stirling in 2005 it was perfectly natural for me to look for opportunities here. Stirling Carers Centre appealed as an opportunity to contribute my time to an organisation that makes a real difference to people’s lives. I think people with caring responsibilities have been let down by society, and giving up some of my time to help out makes things a bit fairer.”

What do you get out of volunteering?

“I like the feeling that I am giving something back to Carers that have had to give up so much because of their caring role. And that feeling of doing something important has helped my wellbeing and sense of self worth over the years. I have also picked up many new skills over the last 15 years, including understanding behaviour, cooking for people and food hygiene, games, first aid, as well as grown in confidence.”

Young Carers volunteer since 2014
Why did you choose to volunteer at Stirling Carers Centre?

“I used to work on short-term contracts and I thought it would be good to have something more permanent in my life. I also believe in giving something to society without expecting anything in return. It sounds like cliche but I do think this would be a better world if everyone did a bit of volunteering.

I was friends with Charlie (I believe the oldest volunteer at YC!) and I was telling him I was looking for volunteer work at a party. Although I knew him for a long time I didn’t know of his volunteer work. He talked to me about YC and his experience and it sounded really positive and rewarding. So I decided to apply and I haven’t looked back!”

What do you get out of volunteering?

“It is a lot of fun! I enjoy joining the activities. It is an excuse to play really. It’s great to see YCs developing from a young age and improving their confidence. There’s a bitter-sweet moment when they leave, you are happy because it means they don’t need support anymore but you came to know them, some of them for a long time, and it’s sad to know you won’t see them again. It’s also great to meet other volunteers.”

Carley

Young Carers volunteer since 2019

Carley is a Carer Support Officer with the Centre. Before she moved into this role, she was our Young Carers Rural Officer covering a maternity leave. Carley now volunteers at the Young Carers groups.

Why did you choose to volunteer at Stirling Carers Centre?

“I chose to volunteer with the Young Carers Service as I had previously built a relationship with all of them and I didn’t want to just move jobs and not see any of them again!

It’s been amazing to still work with them and volunteer at groups every month. It’s great to be able to still be a part of the Young Carers team, and now feel like I have a strong relationship with both teams in the office ”
